Case study: a New-Zealand customer uses exclusively Solar Energy produced by its own PV system for the whole amount of hot water he needs, thus dramatically increasing the self-consumption up to 80%.
John is a customer of Wellington (New Zealand) who installed a small PV system of 2.25kWp in his house.
Analyzing the data showed by the monitoring system, he noticed that a very small amount of the energy produced by his plant (20%) was actually self-consumed, whilst the cost for producing hot sanitary water was still pretty high.
Being the self-consumption values low and having the necessity to produce hot water during the whole year anyway, John searched for a device capable of automatically deviating the surplus energy to an electric boiler with storage (even just a few hundred Watts) without changing much the system with an additional cost, and without drawing power from the grid.
After a careful evaluation, John chose the 4-noks Power Reducer SA. This is a product easy to install and independent of the inverter installed, because it integrates a current meter providing detailed information about the surplus energy produced and automatically deviating it to the boiler resistance; but most of all, it is safe. Most power reducers on the market use a technology which might generate radio interferences, and only few of them can boast the EMC certification as 4-noks Power Reducer does.
This product had a very good performance since the very beginning, and John was enthusiast. Thanks to the Power Reducer SA, the PV system self-consumption increased from 20 to 80%! This result shows how energy autonomy is not just a dream, but a reality with easy and reliable solutions.
